KARACHI, 14 June — An inquiry report from the government has held the police responsible for the costly security lapse of May 8 in which 22 people, including 11 French Navy personnel were killed, and another 12 were wounded. The report said that some very senior police officers of the rank of deputy inspectors general, and senior superintendents, had been given a thorough briefing to inform the special security cell about the movement of the VIPs, and foreigners in Karachi. The government has now started implementing a plan to ensure security of foreigners. Huge road blocks have been erected around diplomatic missions in Karachi as part of latest step. Cameras have been placed around the airport building in Karachi, and police and paramilitary checkposts have been set up at vantage points around the airport building, and in the parking lot to prevent recurrence of incidents of the type occurring on May 8.
