JEDDAH, 14 July — Fifty-one paintings and other art pieces are on show at this summer’s second exhibition that opened at the House of Artists, Jamjoom Center, last night.
The show, part of the ongoing annual Jeddah festival, is being held under the auspices of Ahmed M. Badeeb, chairman of the Jehan Group Holding Co., who formally inaugurated the exhibition last night. Badeeb, who was visibly impressed by the exhibits, congratulated House of Artists’ members on their skills in painting. "Some of the exhibits are excellent and compare with the best produced by international artists," he said.
House of Artists Chairman Saleh Bogary said the 10-day exhibition follows the organization’s first successful summer show that ended recently.
According to him, 46 artists — nine of them female — all members of the organization, have contributed their artworks. They have all been made affordable to art lovers and connoisseurs with prices ranging from SR1,000 to SR3,000. "This show will follow a third summer exhibition from the second week of August," he added.
Saudi painter Mahmood Garbawi, who has exhibited his oriental style of art, said: "The general tenor of exhibits is good. Members belonging to different schools of paintings and various themes have done a wonderful job."
Exhibits range from stills like flowers and flowerpots and landscapes, to birds and horses, as well as abstracts. Tradition, heritage and culture are among prominent themes chosen by the artists. A few have chosen beads and threads for their works.
House of Artists held its first summer exhibition this season that coincided with the inauguration of the annual Jeddah festival last month. The show was opened by Arab News Editor in Chief Khaled A. Al-Maeena.
