JEDDAH, 16 July — Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed has called upon Saudi investors to establish an international football stadium in Jeddah. "It will benefit the people of the region and help host tournaments," he said.

Prince Abdul Majeed denied press reports that the project was under implementation and that Saudi businessmen had donated funds for it. "It’s only just an idea to encourage investors to establish such a stadium in Jeddah," he explained.

Prince Abdul Majeed said his meetings with members of the four committees for promoting sports in the Kingdom yesterday was fruitful. "All panels are working hard to improve the standard of sports and youth welfare activities to the highest levels," he told reporters.

Prince Abdul Majeed, who was appointed by Prince Abdullah, the regent, to oversee the overall development of sports in the country, disclosed plans to hold a joint workshop for all the committees.

"We have also approved plans to establish five websites to help citizens contact the committees directly," he added. The governor chaired the meetings of the four committees and discussed their progress of work. The committees are for reviewing rules and regulations; development of football; developing financial resources for clubs; and promoting sports and youth welfare activities.

Prince Abdul Majeed highlighted the importance of the financial committee. "Most problems of our sports clubs are related to finance. So the success of this committee will have a positive impact on other panels," he added.
