New desalination plants soon

RIYADH, 24 July — The Kingdom plans to complete a number of desalination plants by the yearend, bringing the number of operational plants to 30. A report in Asharq Al-Awsat, a sister publication of Arab News, said the combined production capacity of these plants was 2.9 million cubic meters a day and more than 3,400 megawatt electricity.

On completion of the ongoing projects, there will be 29 pumping stations and 10 mixing stations in the Kingdom. The total length of pipelines will then be more than 4,000 kms.

Abdullah Al-Hussein, Governor of the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), said in a report that the Kingdom is one of the largest producers of desalinated water in the world. He said the corporation has trained 2,863 engineers and technicians. In addition, 15,845 staffers benefitted from its development programs. (SPA)
