JEDDAH, 3 August — The Traffic Department plans to open 31 new driving schools in the private sector Kingdomwide, Al-Watan reported yesterday.
Brig. Gen. Fahd Al-Bishr, director of the department, said in a press statement in Riyadh that establishing driving schools in various provinces is one of the objectives of the department. At present there are 38 schools in addition to 13 under construction. He added that the various studies conducted by the department had justified the need for 31 more schools .
Al-Bishr appealed to businessmen to invest in driving schools. “Apart from being financially profitable they will also help contribute greatly to traffic safety,” Al-Bishr pointed out. He also expressed full confidence in Saudi businessmen’s readiness to cooperate in this project.
The department has already identified potential areas where the new schools could be opened. They included Zulfa, Hawta and Aflaj in Riyadh region. Two regions in Makkah where new schools are required are Laith and Jamoum. Ras Tannurah and Nuayra in the Eastern Province will also have new schools. The other schools will be in Badr in Madinah, Rabigh in Jeddah, Bukayra, Badaie and Midhnab in Qassim, Amlaj in Tabuk, Khurma and Turba in Taif. While Asir needs only one school in Tathlith, Jizan province requires four schools at Fursan, Darb, Dair and Sabya. Tarif and Rafha will get a school each in the northern border province while Shinana, Taima and Ghazzala need driving schools in the Hail region. The department also identified Dauma Al-Jandal and Tabrajal in Jauf and Mikwa, Mandiq and Baljurshi in Baha.
