BURAIDAH, 10 August — In an unusual incident in the Kingdom, a Saudi employer forced his maid servant recently to travel in the open space between the cab and the tailgate of his Hilux pickup during their journey from Riyadh to the central region of Qassim, Al-Jazirah Arabic daily reported yesterday.
"A Saudi saw the poor woman sitting in the open carrier alone buffeted by the strong winds and seared by the scorching sun," the paper said, adding that the man should have allowed her to sit inside the vehicle as there was enough space there.
The Saudi onlooker deplored the inhuman act of his compatriot and wondered why he did so to the maid, violating Islamic teachings and Saudi customs. "Show mercy to your fellow humans to receive God’s mercy," he said, quoting a popular Saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
