RIYADH, 25 August — A Riyadh-based Indian woman has earned a place of honor among poets after her poems were selected for a prestigious three-volume anthology called “The Sound of Poetry” to be published soon in the United States.

Najma Saeed’s “brilliant compositions will be included in the high-profile anthology alongside the verses of former US President Bill Clinton, the 14th Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and many prominent poets from over 70 countries,” said Steve Michaels, chairperson of the International Society of Poets, in a statement yesterday.

Najma, who will travel to Washington this week to attend the International Society of Poets convention, said: “I am really happy that my efforts are being recognized not only in Saudi Arabia but also in the US and other countries.”

A selected part of the Najma’s English poetry has also been certified as a semi-finalist in an international open poetry contest. Besides, she has been invited to publish her poem in an international collection of poetry entitled “Letters from the Soul.”
