Begging children — both boys and girls — at traffic lights are a common sight all over the Kingdom. These foreign children pretend to be selling things while their real purpose is to beg. The concerned government departments have failed to meet the challenge.
It is sad to note that some of the children are less than eight years old and some are also physically disabled. They can be easily intimidated to beg by people who willingly exploit them. We should especially look at the plight of girls and young women who beg. It is surely dangerous to allow girls and young women to run from car to car at traffic lights until very late at night.
While they may be forced to do so in order to earn a living, there may be men with evil designs who are waiting to exploit the women’s poverty in other ways.
A monetary inducement from an unscrupulous man may lead the woman to commit forbidden acts. If effective measures are not taken to stop the practice, society will no doubt have to face such issues as girls’ being harassed and forced to submit to immoral exploitation.
