Al-Amal group wins poll to guides’ board

MADINAH, 28 September — Al-Amal group has won the elections held to the board of directors of the Guides Organization in Madinah recently, according to Hasan ibn Hamid Al-Bakry, member of the election committee and director of the Haj Ministry’s office in the holy city.

He said Al-Amal, which received 195 votes, was declared winners after Al-Basaer group, with 194 votes, said they did not want to contest a second round of elections, which was planned when the two failed to get adequate majority of votes. Al-Daleel, another group, got 76 votes in the elections, conducted for the first time.

Speaking to Al-Jazirah Arabic daily, Al-Bakry wished every success for Al-Amal and expressed hope that they would use their expertise to improve the services being rendered to pilgrims as well as visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque.

Pilgrim guides in Madinah have welcomed the election committee’s decision and hoped that Al-Amal would bring about reforms and make efforts to increase their profits. They also urged the group to set out a plan to develop the financial resources of the organization. They also proposed establishment of a new headquarters for the organization, rationalization of expenditure and prudent investment of its real estate properties.

Abdul Rahman Al-Zaitooni, head of Al-Amal group, thanked the shareholders for reposing their confidence in them. He also commended the efforts of the previous board under Abdul Wahab Faqeeh. Apart from Al-Zaitooni, Al-Amal group includes Dr. Ahmad Katib, Fatahurrahman Abul-Joud, Dr. Abdul Rahman Dabour, Mohammed Ilyas, Essam Sheera, Fouzi Kaaki and Khaled Habash.
