DAMMAM, 1 October — Four airline companies — British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa and Gulf Air — have agreed to call off a price war on their flights between Dhahran and European destinations. The airlines took the decision following a meeting in Alkhobar organized by KLM.

British Airways and KLM will stop their discount rates, which reached SR2,000 from SR3,000, by the end of this month while Lufthansa and Gulf Air will discontinue the discounted rates in mid-October.

The airlines agreed to increase ticket charges by 10 to 15 percent to earn more profits. At present only KLM and Lufthansa are operating flights from Dhahran.

But Gulf Air and British Airways joined the price war by reducing their fares from Manama to London to SR1,850 and SR1,990 respectively. Travel agents in the Eastern Province are expected to benefit from the new decision.
