India-ASEAN business meet set for Oct. 17

HYDERABAD, 4 October — The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), in association with the Indian Ministries of External Affairs and Commerce & Industry, are organizing the first India-ASEAN Business Summit on Oct. 17-18. The business summit will be held in New Delhi on Oct. 17 and at Hyderabad on Oct. 18, according to FICCI Deputy Secretary M. Y. Reddy and AP Industries secretary B. P. Acharya.

Reddy said yesterday that the summit would provide a unique opportunity for top executives from India and ASEAN member countries to interface and strategize across a range of business sectors of mutual interest.

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee would inaugurate the summit at New Delhi on Oct. 17. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would inaugurate the summit at Hyderabad on Oct. 18.

"The summit aims to develop business synergies between India and the ASEAN member countries. The summit will aim at promoting policies, methods and strategies for increasing regional and sub-regional cooperation through implementation of sectoral integration and foster the development of trade and movement of information," he said. He said that the summit would have business sessions on Infrastructure (roads, telecom, civil aviation, railways and special economic zones), Oil and Gas, Financial Services & Insurance, Tourism and promotion of Trade and Investment flows, on the first day at Delhi.
