HYDERABAD, 16 October — Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad arrives here today on a two-day visit to India during which he will also address the first India-ASEAN Business Summit in New Delhi tomorrow.
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will inaugurate the summit in New Delhi tomorrow. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will open the second session of the summit, which will be held here Friday.
Mahathir’s visit is also expected to boost cooperation between Andhra Pradesh and Malaysia in IT and other sectors, officials said.
The Malaysian prime minister, who will be leading a business delegation, will hold talks with Naidu, who recently visited Malaysia as part of his efforts to attract investment.
Naidu will brief Mahathir on his government’s efforts to create world-class infrastructure for IT, IT enabled services, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and will invite Malaysian investment in these projects, the officials said.
Like all heads of states and governments who have visited Hyderabad in the past, Mahathir will also go around the Hyderabad information technology engineering consultancy (HITEC) city. Located at Madhapaur on Hyderabad’s outskirts, HITEC city houses many domestic and multinational IT giants.
Mahathir will attend a dinner today hosted in his honor by Naidu.
