WASHINGTON, 18 October — Saudi Arabia has reiterated its absolute support to UN Security Council resolutions on combating terrorism.
The Kingdom’s permanent representative at the UN, Ambassador Fawzi Shubokshi, said that "as terrorism is an international phenomenon, it should be confronted collectively."
Anti-terror fight is closely linked with so many matters, notably the definition of terrorism, and differentiation between it and legal national struggle and resistance to foreign occupation, he said.
Shubokshi said the Arab countries had proposed convening an intentional conference under the supervision of the UN in order to reach an agreement on the definition of terrorism.
"Efforts should be exerted to fight all forms of terrorism," he added. Shubokshi pointed out that occupation of territories of others constitute one of the most dangerous forms of terrorism, because it would become terrorism of a state and occupying force.
He slammed the continuance of Israeli occupation of Palestine, and said Palestinians have been suffering from the repressive measures of the Israeli occupying authorities.
"The Israeli repressive measures constitute a flagrant violation of the resolutions of international legitimacy and the fourth Geneva agreement ", he said.
Shubokshi warned against nuclear terrorism, and underlined the importance of signing an intentional agreement for non-proliferation of weapons of mass-destruction and establishing nuclear-free zones.
"Terrorism in not linked with certain religion or race", he said, expressing anxiety over the ongoing media campaign in the West which tries to associate Islam with terrorism. He said Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. (SPA)
