RIYADH, 19 October — Authorities in the Eastern Province are looking into the complaint of a Saudi camel owner who accused a fodder company of causing the death of more than 120 camels.
The owner said he had suffered a loss of more than SR2 million as a result of the deaths. Symptoms of poisoning had also appeared in more than 100 other camels in Um Al-Houshat in Olaya village.
An official source at the fodder company told Arab News that field visits conducted by special teams to the affected camels proved that the deaths had nothing to do with the fodder. The source also said the company had not received any notification from the Agriculture Ministry indicating its involvement in the case.
But the camel owner attributed his complaint to a report issued by King Faisal University in Al-Ahsa after conducting tests on the dead camels. He also pointed out the organic changes in the contents of the fodder. Meanwhile, government authorities in Um Al-Houshat have set up a committee including three experts to find out the real reason for the death of the camels.
