RIYADH, 20 October — The Kingdom yesterday lifted a two-year-old ban on import of 12 Belgian food products.

The move followed Belgian Crown Prince Philippe’s talks here yesterday with Commerce Minister Osama Faqeeh. They discussed the specifications set by the Kingdom for lifting the ban.

They also discussed various aspects of economic and commercial cooperation between the Kingdom and Belgium.

Faqeeh underlined the importance of enhancing trade, technical and scientific cooperation between the two countries. He said the volume of Saudi-Belgian trade in 2001 amounted to SR 3.1 billion

He noted that Saudi non-oil products were marketed in about 150 countries in 2001 at a total values of SR 34 billion.

He urged Saudi and Belgian businessmen to benefit from the investment opportunities available in Saudi Arabia.

The Belgian Crown prince is accompanied by a 72-member business delegation. The delegates will hold talks with Saudi businessmen at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday to explore joint investment projects.

Prince Philippe later conferred with Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal.
