Burger King, Zahran outfight rivals in 5th Basketball Fever

RIYADH, 25 October — The overflow crowd at Sheraton Riyadh rubberized basketball court witnessed the exciting and grueling battle of wits between new comer Jeraisy against last year’s first runner-up Pizza Hut in the ongoing 2nd Conference of the 5th Basketball Fever in Riyadh 2002 sponsored by Pepsi Cola and with support from Bahr Al-Olum Printing Press, Power Horse, Pizza Hut, Kudu and Burger King which is hosted by Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers under the patronage of J. Thomas C. van Opstal, general manager.

The heat was on from start to finish. It was a ding dong affair as both teams applied pressure in their defense and offense tactics from the start till the 3rd quarter where their scores where highlighted by nine deadlocks and only in the remaining five minutes, did the endurance of Pizza Hut Boys of Noel Villafuerte, Joseph Abosolo, Ronaldo Naperi, Renante Garcia and powerful rebounder Arthur Gabon made their best effort to out play the Jeraisy boys 76/69. Kudu won a battle of wills against Burger King as "Basketball" superstar Noel Sabordo topscored with 26 points and diminutive Richard Gayondato of Burger King hit the board with 19 points which included the five 3 points that almost break his own record from the first conference of 6 three points. The exit of Jimmy Mayo and Robert Hernandez and Amron Rugasan both nursing four fouls each limited their movement for the rebound and settle for the final score 78/69 in favor of Kudu. Emad Aziz’s Al-Hokair boys gave Alex Javier’s Metito squad another see saw battle that ended 70/62 in favor of Metito for their second win. The jinks were broken on Friday’s matches and after two successive losses Burger King posted its first win against Al-Hokair 75/68 whereas Zahran Co. defeated Saudi Telecom and Jeraisy Stopped Madjaas 78/48.
