JEDDAH, 25 October — Dove Bar Soap became the first ever team to have the most exquisite night-out in the House of Donuts 2002-All Filipino Tenpin Bowling League 28th Reinforced Conference by hitting a perfect 48 over 48 points. The record-breaking feat enabled them to leap to second place at the close of the 15th week at the Jeddah Bowling Center.
GM Samir Naseer of House of Donuts is the principal sponsor of the Thursday night bowling tournament also dubbed as 28th Reinforced Conference of the All-Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (AFTBJ) under Chairman Rally Zamora. Other sponsors include: Dove Soap Al-Alamiah Insektos, Hagibis, SkyFreight Forwarders of Don Emy de Guzman, Amigos III, A.T. team, Gandour Tamria, Internet at Kape, Mix-Bunch, Walang Takot, Tetra Pak, Global Distribution and Mazan Jirad (distributor of Salam Fragrance Rice & Panther Energy Drink). So awesome was Dove team that none of the five-man squad could do nothing wrong except that their lowest scorer produced relatively high 607 pins while the others shot past 620.
The stupendous feat chronicled themselves in the AFTBL record books as the best team ever in the era of total win-point format by hurling colossal 3247 pins while sweeping games one to three and garnering the maximum twelve points every step of the way.
Team captain Edwin Ronquillo led Dove’s blitzkrieg with 681 pinfalls in three games and Class O Jess Pineda almost justified his stellar billing for Dove Bar Soap snatching 672 three game-series fashioned out from lines of 203, 235 and 234 on zero handicap. Nap Patayan was deadly on a 666-pins output, toppling 225 and 232 in the last two games. Paul Antiporda shone with 211 pins in game two off his 621 while Raul de los Reyes capped a blockbuster night for the soap makers with 607.
Hagibis wove only 25 points tumbling down to third place over-all, yielding to Dove Soap by the thinnest of margin on a flat 439.00 (41930 pinfalls) as against 439.50 (42346 pinfalls). League-leading. SkyFreight Forwarders, by any yardstick was horrendous with only 18 twp for the week, but Don Emy de Guzman’s team was still undeterred at first place with 4778.5 total win points and 42289 total pinfalls to date. Rounding out the Top 4 was Global Distribution, which grabbed 34 points and 15-game total win points of 420 and 41854 pinfalls.
Rene Martinez and Ver Luz were at the forefront of Global Distribution’s attack combining for 1223 pinfalls (622 and 601). Dove Bar Soap had an initial roll-off of 1026 pins in Game 1, raised it to 1111 in Game 2 and ended up Game 3 with 1110. The second best performing team in the week would have to be sixth placed TMI-JWT who stood second to Dove in both games 2 and 3 on 1054 and 1059 respectively.
It was the main highlight of their 36.50 points, 3014 pinfalls atoning for their poor tenth place showing in the opening game. Three from MT-JWT were impeccable with Roger Daquiaog setting the pace on a three game aggregate of 650 and a solid 256 separate single high in game three. Goying Salazar was going strong still with a 620 while James Galvan was definitely not a vanishing act bombarding 611 pins.
Al-Alamiah Insektos relinquished the fourth spot to Global Distribution as the latter outfought them 34.0 to 29.5 points and whereas the former lead by three points in the 14th 389 to 386 twp, in the 15th week GD had the last laugh with a 1.5 point difference, 420.0 to 418.5. An inspired Hashim Guinomla who smouldered the lanes in game 3 with a 258, led the way for the Insektos with 667 pins in three games but the next best scorer in the team was 100-pins behind as Nonie Yap could only produce 567. Emil Payongayong was the lone bright spot for Hagibis lining up 225 in game three and a team high score of 645 pins while none of his teammates breached the 600-mark.
Leo Laygo likewise whipped up 619 for No Fera but his teammates other than Vic Santos who tallied 596 played veggies. Randy Mata of Tetra Pak had a great eye in games 1 and 2 snaring 202 and 214 before getting past just a pin above his 177 average with 178 at closing time while the rest of the Pak-ers bowled as if shut-eyed. Leo Pangilinan of Gandour Tamria shared the sentiment of his No Fera namesake as he led the team with 623, the rest had no pretensions of grandeur exemplified by Andy Abrenica’s low output of 399 and that plus a handicap score of 45 would net him only 444.
Mix Bunch had a couple of above-600 producers in Toto Lim and Mar Cabrera who shot 612 and 602 respectively while three other teams failed to put a single player in the 600s most notably SkyFreight Forwarders whose highest scorer was Edu Toledo with a 590. Odjie Sagcal was the best kegler for Salam Fragrance Rice although he scored only 593, Mando Beltran was the top man for Amigos-III with 559.
