JEDDAH, 26 October — A grand celebration is in order at the International Philippine School in Jeddah (IPSJ), the oldest and biggest Philippine school overseas, which is turning 21 today.
Kicking off the celebration is a parade around the school in Jeddah’s Gornatah area, to be lead by the newly organized IPSJ Drum Corps, complete with majorettes.
Ambassador Bahnarim A. Guinomla, one of the prime movers of the school when it was established in 1981, was invited as guest speaker.
Activities include the opening of booths, bazaars, and food festivals.
The Pre-School Calisthenics Competition, Primary and Intermediate Field Demonstration, and the High School Cheer Dance Competition are scheduled in the afternoon until the evening of each day. Starting at 8 p.m., sports enthusiasts can watch the basketball and volleyball championship competitions sponsored by the Student Council, and the volleyball and basketball exhibition games between parents, faculty and staff, and Board of Trustees.
The second will feature a Quiz Bee sponsored by the Sciematic Club (Science and Math Club) of the school.
Scheduled on the third day is the “Battle of the Brains” sponsored by the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME)-Western Region chapter.
Alongside with the morning activities are the different side games and indoor games.
The grand night is set on the fourth day, with a Literary and Musical Show entitled Daluyong (The Tempest), dramatizing the evolution of songs and dances of the Philippines, sponsored by the English Club, Filipino Club, and the Glee Club of IPSJ.
As the spirit slows down, everybody is invited to take part at the Funtime, a family affair, where everyone is invited to join the parlor games and raffle draws.
Snacks intended for the whole IPSJ community is to be shared as a thanksgiving for its more than two decades of fruitful existence.
