Housing norms approved

JEDDAH, 12 November 2002 — Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed has approved the recommendations of a committee assigned to inspect the housing units being readied for pilgrims. Under new rules, owners of four-story buildings housing pilgrims should be manned by specialized Saudi security men. Training courses must be provided by civil defense to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims. Brig. Ahmed Al-Thubeiti, director of civil defense administration in the Makkah region, said training will start soon. (SPA)
