JEDDAH, 17 November 2002 — Charity is without frontiers, says Princess Sarah Al-Faisal, president of Al-Nahdha Women’s Charitable Society.
“Our activities are not restricted by geographical boundaries,” Princess Sarah was quoted as saying by Al-Watan Arabic daily.
“This is the nature of philanthropic activity. It has no limits or boundaries,” she said and cited Al-Nahdha’s campaign against Rift Valley Fever in Jizan as an example.
“Although Jizan does not come within the limits of our society’s activities, which is in Riyadh, Al-Nahdha felt that we should participate in the campaign,” she said.
Princess Sarah said Princess Al-Jowharah Al-Ibrahim, wife of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd, welcomed the society’s plan and extended all support for the campaign.
Princess Al-Jowharah contributed SR3 million to the project. “This royal gesture encouraged the philanthropists to participate actively in the campaign,” she added.
She said a team of experts from the society took part in the campaign along with officials from the Labor & Social Affairs Ministry’s office in Jizan, Jizan governorate and the Health Ministry’s office, making it a big success.
Al-Nahdha, which was established 40 years ago, offers various services to the poor and needy. It has carried out pioneering projects in social, cultural, educational, training and rehabilitation areas, the princess said.
“We established the first women’s library in the Kingdom,” she pointed out. The society also opened adult education centers as well as education facilities for the blind and children with special needs.
Al-Nahdha has also established a health center. “We have implemented a number of special programs to help women play a vital role in society,” she said.
They include centers to teach Arabic, French and English languages.
Established in 1962, Al-Nahdha was the brainchild of a group of women philanthropists including Princess Lateefah Al-Faisal, Muzaffer Adham, Sameera Khashoggi and Princess Sarah.
Kuwait recently honored Princess Sarah in appreciation of her outstanding role in philanthropic activities, the paper said.
