JEDDAH, 29 November 2002 — The Organization of Islamic Conference urged the international community yesterday to intervene to protect the Palestinians and put an end to the tragic situation in the Palestinian territories.
The international community should “step up efforts to put an end to the tragic situation in the Palestinian territories, end Israeli occupation and ensure international protection for the Palestinian people,” OIC Secretary General Abdelouahed Belkeziz said in a message to world leaders.
The message was sent to, among others, UN chief Kofi Annan, US Secretary of State Colin Powell and the European Union’s foreign policy chief Javier Solana on the occasion of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which will be marked today.
