JEDDAH, 20 December 2002 — The team of LVNJ Ball led by Alex Tabusares and Joey Salvador of Comfort Fabric Softener shot to fame in contrasting styles when they bagged the top awards on the 8th week of the Tuesday Night Bowling League.
The League is organized by the Brotherhood Bowling Group and is played on Tuesdays at the Jeddah Bowling Center here. LVNJ Ball clinched the team of the week award after scoring a total of 62 points in three games including the bonus of 17 for scoring a series of 2924 pins with handicap. LVNJ banked on the sterling shots of Jerriel Cacao (623), Vic Santos (539), Lavern Laderas (520), Leo Pangilinan (570), and team captain Alex Tabusares (672). LVNJ collected 16 points on the first game at a 5-man series of 962 pins, 14 points (962) on the second set and 15 on the final stretch after hitting 1000. Tuesday Spoilers Danny Manriza (195), Sid Sagun (193), Benjie Tricano (185), Mat Abadier (204) and Danny Bautista (251) took the checkered flag (18 points) at the start with a series of 1028.
On the second set, however, the quintet bogged down after meeting walls of splits, scored a low 924 for 8 points. Hashim Guinomla (274), Mao Orolfo (203), Kiko Catabas (191), Zaldy Parinas (186) and skipper Arnold Alday (176) of Al-Alamiah Insektos were sizzling hot till the second game that they were able to duplicate their 17-point feat at the beginning. On the final bend, however, the ‘insektos‚ went self-destruct.
The quintet hit a dismal 835 for a miserable 2 points. The ‘insektos‚ flew away with 50 points and remained the second runner in the overall (400.5). It was on the second game that the Top Gun snipers Goying Salazar (205), Rudy Valenzuela (241), Leo Edejer (162), Bert Tuvera (205) and Bonnie Garcia (184) were able to spot the right mark.
The quintet unerringly flashed their superb shots, gunned down 1040 pins including the handicap of 43 (18 points) and stayed on course of the race for higher points. On the final match, the quintet hit 17 points (1008 pins) and romped away the maximum points for the series but their poor showing at the beginning pulled them down to claim the coveted top prize of the week in the team category.
Top Gun submitted a total of 56 points. Al-Sayaad Established ruled the final match (1017) and brought their tally to 39.5 points, which anchored the team on top of the table with a running total score of 409.5 points.
Jess Pineda, Val Magsino, Cyril Balasico, Benjie Cils and Danny Cofreros provided the energy during the week. After posting 10 points at the start, the quintet of Comfort Fabric Softener adjusted their spots on the second game.
The adjustment worked wonders that Joey Salvador (224), Ver Luz (220), Edwin Ronquillo (224), Raul de los Reyes (178) and Ding Abaygar (162) were able to sweep 16 points after submitting 1008. Comfort Fabric Softener remained composed and steady on their pendulum swing during the final match.
The pair of Salvador (242) and delos Reyes (214) brought their series to 1001 to again receive 16 points after all the scores of the team were tapered down. Joey Salvador snatched the bowler of the week distinction after he drilled a 3-game series of 694 with handicap.
Equipped with a handicap of 8 pins per game, Salvador blasted the lanes when he unleashed his incredible spins, hit scratch scores of 212, 216 and a strong 242 on the last game. Hashim Guinomla bombarded the lanes with nine solid strikes on the second game to hit a whooping 274 to lead the race for the week’s plum in the individual category with a running total of 477. On the last game, however, he faltered and only scored 188 for a total of 665. Rudy Valenzuela of Top Gun drilled 241 on the second game to join the race (462) but could only sum up to only 678 after the final match. Alex Tabusares of LVNJ Ball would have surprised seeded bowlers had he conjured two easy spares on the final stretch.
His three unforced errors including the one on frame 8 of the second game merely accumulated 672. The week’s 7-bagger winners were Hashim Guinomla of Al-Alamiah and Danny Bautista of Tuesday Spoilers.
The duo also submitted their passes to the BBG Elite Bowlers Club, Guinomla had 274 while Bautista had 251.
Winners of special prizes for conjuring into spare the 4-6-10 split were Rene Martinez of SPIC, James Galvan of International Team and Val Magsino of the Al-Sayaad Establishment. Goying Salazar won the ‘Sakuna‚ gift pack, prize given to a bowler who makes a strike without first hitting the headpin.
