Jeddah to host sports medicine symposium

JEDDAH, 24 December 2002 — Jeddah Governor Prince Mish’al ibn Majed will inaugurate a symposium on sports medicine at King Fahd Coastal City here tomorrow.

Organized by the Saudi Sports Medicine Federation and the Presidency of Youth Welfare, the symposium will feature leading experts who will speak on advances in the medical treatment and care of athletes.

According to Dr. Mohammed Mufti, president of Saudi Sports Medicine Federation, the one-day meet covers topics related to medical evaluation and rehabilitation. “A special panel discussion following both morning and afternoon sessions will allow attendees to ask questions of our distinguished speakers,” he said.

Successful prevention, evaluation and rehabilitation of sports injuries are crucial elements of any comprehensive athletic program, he said.

Mufti said physiotherapists, family physicians, athletic trainers, coaches, fitness club personnel, and school personnel involved in physical education, recreation and fitness programs will attend the symposium. “They all will be able to develop a greater understanding of the role of radiological evaluation in the diagnosis and management of sports injuries and gain knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of common sports injuries,” he said.

The main speakers will include Dr. Mohammed Mufti, Dr. Fadel Abdeen, Dr. Ahmed Abu Abah, Dr. Mohammed Siraj, Dr. Khalid Madani and Dr. Saleh Al Qanbaz. — Saleh Fareed
