Unique & Sendex lift EP Open cricket trophy

JEDDAH, 27 December 2002 — Unique & Sendex lifted the Eastern Province open cricket tournament-2002. While Unique defeated Kanoo by 19 runs in Division B, Sendex easily beat Ace Travels by 37 runs. 30 teams participated in this tournament and were classified into 5 groups. (a, b, c, d & e). After playing initial league matches, 16 teams qualified for Division “A”‚ knockout and 8 teams for Division “B”‚ knockout.

The final was played between last year’s runners-up Kanoo and Unique for Division “A”‚. Unique batting first scored 110 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. For Uniquie Muzammil scored 23 runs and Talib scored 24 runs.

Yaseen Baghadadi of Kanoo took 2 wickets for 23 runs. Kanoo chasing the target, were all out for 91 runs in 19th over.

Ayub Khan scored 14 runs and Tabrez 17 runs. Saeed and Waqar took 2 wickets each and Idrees, who took 3 important wickets by allowing just 14 runs in his 4 overs by his excellent bowling was judged as the Man of the Match. Ayub Khan of Kanoo was declared as the best batsman and Man of the Tournament for his all round performance scoring 250 runs and taking 11 wickets. Arvind of KCC was judged as best bowler, Karkala Shareef of Bridgestone as best out-fielder and Aslam of Safari as best keeper. In Division ‘B‚ the final was played between last year’s winners Sendex and Ace Travels. Sendex scored 95 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Suneet scored 15 runs and Yaseen Jr. 13 runs. Haroon from Ace Travels took 3 wickets for 22 runs. Ace Travels chasing the score were bundled for 58 runs. Shafeeq scored 16 runs. Captain Yaseen of Sendex captured 4 wickets by allowing 11 runs in his 4 overs spell, which awarded him the Man-of-the-Match trophy. Sendex won by 37 runs. For Division ‘B’ Safther Ali of Sendex was declared as the best batsman, Ranjith of SriLankan Airlines as best bowler, Shahid of Zamil as best out-fielder and Javed of Sendex as the best keeper. The tournament was jointly sponsored by: PC Worldwide Cargo, Trico International, Dr. Ranjith Pathirana, Dr. Doric Peris, Dr. Damian Fernando and Dr. Nihal Desilva.

SriLankan Airlines win

Six-a-Side tournament

The SriLankan Airlines sponsored Six-a-Side tournament was won SriLankan Airlines who defeated. SLEA by 13 runs. In all 24 teams participated in this tournament. The final was played between SLEA and SriLankan Airlines. SriLankan Airlines batting first were able to make just 37 runs in their allotted 5 overs. Prageeth scored 14 and Azam scored 10 runs. SLEA chasing were all out for 24 runs and only Niraj scored 8 runs. SriLankan Airlines won the match by 13 runs owing to intelligent captaincy and team spirit. Bonny of Trico was the best batsman, Imran of Trico the best bowler, Riznaf of SLEA the best outfielder, Azam of SriLankan Airlines the best keeper and Roshan of Trico Man-of-the-Tournament for his all-round performance.

Sendex thrash PC Cargo in EP knockout tournament

The sponsors team Sendex defeated PC Cargo by 47 runs to lift the Eastern Province knockout tournament. In all 16 teams participated in this tournament. The final was played between Senddex and Pc Cargo. Senddex battting first scored 83 runs in 10 overs. For Senddex Asif scored 23 runs with 3 sixes and Iqbal 18 runs. Rizwan of PC Cargo took 3 wickets for 10 runs and Nipaz captured 2 wickets for 15 runs. Pc Cargo chasing the score were all out for 36 runs by the excellent bowling performance from Senddex. Vincent of Senddex, who took 3 wickets for 9 runs, was the Man-of-the-Match for his best bowling performance. Senddex won the match by 47 runs. Balan of DHL was judged as the best batsman, Sanjeeva of Sri Lankan Airlines as Best Bowler and Safther Ali of Sendex as Man-of-the Tournament . (Muhammad Siraj)
