Doctor found negligent in treating AIDS patient

JEDDAH, 8 January 2003 — A committee of inquiry has found that a doctor at the King Saud Hospital who treated an AIDS patient guilty of gross negligence in handling the case, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported yesterday.

The committee, which was constituted at the orders of Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed, recommended the cancellation of the doctor’s employment contract.

The committee said the doctor had failed to take necessary precautions when treating Yemeni national Suleiman ibn Ali Thabit who was suffering from the killer disease.

Prince Abdul Majeed ordered the inquiry in the wake of media reports that an AIDS patient, who lived under an overpass in South Jeddah, caused panic in the neighborhood.
