Bank worker flees after embezzling SR2.5 million

JEDDAH, 8 January 2003 — A bank employee in Makkah disappeared after embezzling SR2.5 million from the bank last Wednesday, a newspaper reported yesterday. Police suspect that the man has fled to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

A police team led by Col. Muhammad Al-Saadi, head of the Aziziah police station in Makkah, recovered part of the money from the man’s relatives, Al-Madinah daily said. They found SR600,000 with a female relative and SR200,000 with a friend of the man. Following a lead supplied by a map found in a friend’s car, the police team searched a building where SR850,000 was hidden.

The police are exploring the possibility of extraditing the suspect from the UAE, the paper said.
