JEDDAH, 9 January 2003 — Al-Qadisiya vaulted to the top of the King Fahd Cup soccer tournament for the first time this season after scoring a thrilling 3-2 victory over Al-Ahli at the Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd Stadium in Dammam yesterday.

This is the third loss for Ahli in a fortnight, after losing to Al-Hilal 1-0 and Al-Ittihad 4-1 earlier. Qadisiya, with this victory, have 26 points and are on top of the league. But the situation could change after the key Ittihad-Hilal encounter. Ahli are at 17 points.

Saud Al-Kareri (11th), Saeed Al-Wadani (17th) and Yasser Al-Qahtani (44th) put Qadisiya in the driver’s seat with their strikes. Despite being 0-3 down, Ahli staged a comeback in the second half through Fauzi Al-Shehri (52nd) and Waleed Al-Jizani (87th), but Qadisiya held on to earn full points.
