RIYADH, 11 January 2003— Saudi wheat farmers have urged the authorities to intervene after the General Organization for Grain Silos and Flour Mills refused to buy 600,000 tons of their produce worth more than SR400 million. The organization says that it has bought the necessary quantities required for local consumption, as decided by the government. The farmers said they have no facilities to store the rejected produce coming from farms in Jouf, Hail, Riyadh, Aflaj and Qassim regions. — Habeeb Al-Shammary
