RIYADH, 14 January 2003 — Riyadh Governor Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz has disclosed that the government has plans to establish in the capital city a permanent exhibition center for national products.
“The project will be implemented shortly,” he told reporters after opening the fifth Iranian industrial exhibition here on Sunday.
The governor underscored the growing economic and commercial ties between Riyadh and Tehran and commended the quality of Iranian products and the exchange of exhibitions between the two countries.
“Saudi and Iranian businessmen are cooperating to allow for the export of Saudi products to Iran,” he said.
The number of Iranian industries in the Kingdom has also increased, he added.
Prince Salman expressed his hope that such exhibitions will strengthen relations between the two countries.
As many as 70 Iranian companies and industries are taking part in the seven-day exhibition. More than 200 Iranian businessmen and sales executives are also present.
The products displayed at the show include building materials, household utensils, glass, paper, chemicals, prayer mats and medicine.
Prince Salman also opened the command and control center of the traffic department in Nasiriya yesterday. The center has 89 color cameras and 27 screens to monitor traffic in the city.
Speaking later to reporters, he announced that winter school hours in Riyadh will start half an hour before government offices open.
Prince Salman will also commission a number of industrial projects in Riyadh today.
There are presently more than 3,580 industries in the Kingdom involving a capital investment of SR247 billion. Riyadh houses the largest number, totaling some 1,264 industries (or 36 percent of the total). There are two industrial regions in the city with a total area of 20 million square meters.
