HYDERABAD, 19 January — One bus passenger was killed and 17 others injured when a passenger train rammed into a state-owned bus in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh yesterday morning. While 15 persons were treated as outpatients and sent away, three seriously injured persons were shifted to government general hospital at Guntur. One of them, identified as Subbamma, succumbed to injuries at the hospital later. The train rammed into the bus yesterday after a guard failed to close a level-crossing, a report said. The state-run bus was crossing a railway line at a level crossing when it was hit by the passenger train, the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency said. The railway official at the crossing had failed to close the barricades, senior police officer A. Ravishankar told PTI. He said a case of negligence had been registered against the official.
