JEDDAH, 21 January 2003 — The Ministry of Commerce slapped a ban on imports of shrimp from Indonesia and frozen fish from a Bangladeshi company, a newspaper reported yesterday.

Laboratory analyses showed that the products contained toxic chemicals.

In a letter to the chambers of commerce and industry, medical experts warned that these chemicals are dangerous to public health as they might cause cancer, according to Al-Madinah daily.
