Sponsored pilgrims arrive

JEDDAH, 2 February 2003 — One hundred pilgrims from Ghana, who will be hosted by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd, arrived yesterday at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah.

On arrival, they were welcomed by a number of senior officials. The pilgrims expressed appreciation for enabling them to perform Haj.

Dr Tawfiq Al-Sudeiri, undersecretary at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance, noted that more than 1, 400 pilgrims from 28 countries will perform Haj this year at the personal expense of King Fahd. (SPA)

45,000 arrive from Egypt

CAIRO, 2 February 2003 — The number of Egyptian Haj pilgrims who left for Saudi Arabia has reached 45,000.

They include pilgrims coming from Canada, the US, China, Denmark, the Netherlands and some African nations.

The last pilgrim flight will leave Egypt for Jeddah on Wednesday.(SPA)

Extra flights

ALKHOBAR, 2 February 2003 — Saudia will operate additional flights to serve local and international sectors during the Haj season, a Saudia official in the Eastern Province said.

It was also disclosed that Saudia will operate 30 flights for pilgrims from the Eastern Province.

There will be an additional direct flight from Dammam to Jeddah and another from Dammam to Taif. (SPA)
