JEDDAH, 7 February 2003 — Lexus beat ALJ Hospital 57-51 in the Inter-Division category of the 10th ALJ Presidents Cup 2003 Invitational Basketball Tournament held in Al Safa District, Jeddah.
Lexus managed to dictate the tempo of the game in the first half 25-14 and with Martin and Carabeo firing consecutives three’s caught ALJ Hospital flat-footed in the last 2 minutes of the game. ALJ Hospital tried to sneak back to the game but lost their main man Dola-ogon due to foul trouble. Martin top scored with 23 points and Carabeo 19 points for Lexus while Calara scored 15 points for ALJ Hospital.
A fiesta like atmosphere filled the ALJ basketball court as 21 teams paraded in their resplendent uniforms during the opening ceremony that was presided by JoJo Ligan.
The award for the Best Muse went to ALJ Hospital (Inter-Division), Sharbatly (Bonafide A), Bentley’s/Naghi (Bonafide B). The Best in Uniform went to Lexus Center (Inter-Division), Saudi Canadian Cleaning Services (Bonafide A), Bentley’s/Naghi (Bonafide B). Most Disciplined Team goes to Bentley’s/Naghi (Bonafide B).
In the next game, Saudi Diyar registered their overtime win against Sharbatly Group 102-100.
A run and gun offense of Saudi Diyar coach Jameel Del Rosario paid well to contain the taller line up of Sharbatly in the overtime period and gave the consultants their first win in the Inter-Company Bona Fide division A. Martin, Esposa and Tipon scored 26, 25 and 20 points respectably for Saudi Diyar while Remegio top score with 32 points for Sharbatly.
In the last game, Bentley’s/Naghi showed grit to beat FFP Sunbulah 60-56. FFP Sunbulah Coach Totoy Jimenez tried to contain the run and gun offense of Bentley’s/Naghi but in vain.
Sihawi Sarip top scored with 14 points for Bentley’s/Naghi while Rapada scored 25 points for FFP Sunbulah.
