CA gives nod to 6 new envoys

MANILA, 13 February 2003 — Six appointees of President Arroyo for ambassadorial posts won the nod of the powerful Commission on Appointments yesterday. They are Undersecretary Lauro Baja, who was named permanent representative to the United Nations in New York; Noel Cabrera as ambassador to Romania, with concurrent jurisdiction over Bulgaria and Moldova; Jose Lino Guerrero Jr. as ambassador to Bangladesh with jurisdiction over Sri Lanka and Maldives; Eduardo Pablo Maglaya as ambassador to Bahrain; Antonio Rodriguez as ambassador to Thailand and permanent representative to the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific; and Bayani Mangibin as ambassador to Kuwait. Also confirmed were appointments of nine military generals. The CA has received an opposition filed to the appointment of Environment Secretary Elisea Gozun.
