SkyFreight and Saudi Pearls Sparkle: AFTBL League

JEDDAH, 14 March 2003 — SkyFreight Forwarders and the Saudi Pearls team keglers displayed separate awesome performances to grab the topmost positions in the opening day of the All Filipino Tenpin Bowling League (AFTBL), 29th Conference, the longest-ever running league in the region. The league is now being played at the Bowling World Center every Saturday and organized by the newly elected FTBJ officers consisting of Rene San Pedro, president, Danny De Guzman, vice president - internal, Andy Erena, vice president - external, Rene Martinez, treasurer, Luis T. Luna, secretary-general, Jess Escondo, auditor, and Odjie Sagcal, tournament director.

In game 1, the SkyFreight Forwarders tallied total team output of 940 and sealed 12 points through the games of Edu Toledo who posted a three-game series of 612. Fellow Danny de Guzman and Cris Villavelez together with Rene Santiago added a separate series of 568, 555 and 544 in three outings while Hero Garcia added 424 points. In the next game, SkyFreight posted 8 points and followed by 9 points in the last game. SkyFreight took the top position in the overall team standing by garnering 41 points.

The Saudi Pearl quintet secured the second position by collecting 40 points and submitting the best output. Rey Beltran and Rene Martinez toppled an identical three-game series of 585. Boy Casio had 550 points while Luis T. Luna and Dante Calapatia pumped-in a series of 524 and 460.

The Ay Sarap team keglers compiled 35 points after the three games and saw Mixi Lechuga lead with a series of 604. Adore Torres and Roger Daquioag got 584 and 537 series in three matches while Danny Bautista and Benjie Cils toppled 491 and 479 points. The Ay Sarap team landed in third position. Former FTBJ president, Rally Zamora powered the Sarawat Green Farm teams to the fourth position. Zamora had a series of 552. Odjie Sagcal rolled 549 while Mao Orolfo and Igna Salgado downed a series of 531 and 529 in three games. Louie ‘berks’ Bautista carded 529 points.

The Showtime team keglers placed fifth and saw Dads Gueco lead with 626 points. Ramiz Ayoub sparkled 575 while Alex Flora, Ed Labuac and Danny Manriza scored a separate series of 514, 509 and 429. Raul delos Reyes piloted the Dove team to the sixth with 598 in three outings. Nap Patayan, Joey Salvador, Randy ‘kilabot ng 500 bowlers’ Mata together with Edwin Ronquillo submitted separate series of 538, 536, 532 and 489.

Topgunner Bonnie Garcia shot a series of 591 to topscore in the Top Gun squad while next to him with the best score was Bert Tuvera with 559. Goying Salazar, Rudy Valenzuela and Rodell Ricafort had a series of 524, 461 and 440. Top Gun secured the seventh position. Occupying the eight and ninth spots were the keglers of Gandour and Picpa Pro Abudawood. Rey Pormilda was on top for Gandour with 570, followed by Jess Escondo (532), Fred Monzon (524, Leo Pangilinan (446) and Darwain Tumandao (435). For Picpa Pro Abudawood, import player Benjie Domado led by carding a series of 562 in three games. Paul Antiporda sizzled to post a series of 556 while Emil Payongayong and Gil Martos had a series of 504 and 454. Jun ‘game ka na ba’ Pilipina downed 431 points.

The OMO bowling team was in tenth position and leading scorer was Doods Versoza with 531. Andy Erena came-in next to Versoza with 528, followed by L. Clemente (504), Vhoi ‘lover boy’ Ikong (471) and Bong Macabata (401.

Meanwhile, the 2003 Annual Ramadan Goodwill Games will be hosted by the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ) and tentatively scheduled on Nov. 25, 26 and 27, 2003.
