JEDDAH, 16 March 2003 — An article in Al-Watan stating that a Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency (SAMA) report had put Saudi Arabia’s unemployment figure at 31.7 percent, which was re-printed in Arab News (March 5), was false, according to Mohammed Al-Jasser, Vice Governor of SAMA.
Al-Jasser told Arab News last night that no such report exists, and the figure of 31.7 percent was arrived at independently by local journalists after they studied various other reports issued by SAMA.
