RIYADH, 18 March 2003 — Three illegal residents, a man and two women, have been arrested for possessing and distributing pornographic films in Abha.
In another development, officials confiscated 3,036 bottles of liquor when a truck driver tried to smuggle them into the country.
Custom officials in Dammam also recently thwarted an attempt to smuggle more than six kilograms of heroin into Saudi Arabia.
The drug was found in the handbag of an Indian passenger on an Air India flight.
If proven guilty, the man will face the death penalty.
The heroin is considered to be worth around SR4 million and is the largest quantity ever seized by airport customs.
The arrests indicate the Kingdom’s commitment to stemming the flow of drugs and alcohol into the country.
