KUWAIT CITY, 25 March 2003 — A US Marine has been killed and three others injured in a vehicle accident in Kuwait, the US Central Command said yesterday.
“A US Marine from the First Marine Expeditionary Force died early Sunday morning after he was involved in a vehicle accident,” the command said.
Three other Marines were injured in the same accident and were transported to the Kuwait Armed Forces Hospital for further treatment, it added. The incident was under investigation “and is not believed to be a result of enemy action,” the command said.
Meanwhile, air raid sirens sounded repeatedly in Kuwait with three faint explosions heard in the city.
The sirens sounded around 1:35 p.m., the fourth time in the day, before the thuds of the explosions.
The all-clear was given only for another warning of impending danger minutes later. Another siren was heard at about 4:45 p.m., and again the all-clear was given but just minutes later, they started wailing again.
Kuwaiti Defense Ministry spokesman Yousuf Al-Mulla said the first was a false alarm while the second warned of an Iraqi missile being launched but the missile fell before entering Kuwaiti airspace.
A CNN reporter based with a Patriot missile defense unit in northern Kuwait said there had been an explosion a short distance away from the unit during the latest alert. Further details were not immediately available.
