DAMMAM, 9 May 2003 — Forty-five Saudis who traveled to China for various types of medical treatment are facing the threat of being infected by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

Some of these Saudis told Arab News that 25 Saudi patients and their 20 escorts are at the University Hospital of Johan in Beijing, and they expressed their fears over the deadly disease which is spreading faster in that part of the world than anywhere else.

The Saudis showed their appreciation for the support extended by the Saudi Embassy in Beijing, which had sent doctors and translators to assist them. The Saudis as well as other inpatients are not allowed to leave the hospital unless in an emergency.
