JEDDAH, 16 May 2003 — Al Qadisiya defeated Al Nasr 1-0 in the knockout round-robin phase of the King Fahd Cup Soccer Tournament in Riyadh yesterday.
The matchup between the fourth and third place finishers of the second round league saw Qadisiya dominating the clash at the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium. The match-winner was scored in the 20th minute by striker Saleh Al-Shahrani, who latched onto a rebound off the goalkeeper, to score.
Though Nasr made a desperate bid to win the match in a last-ditch flurry — making a concerted 15-minute attack before the final whistle — they will be left to rue what the outcome could have been if they had wasted a penalty a minute before the break.
Qadisya will now meet Al-Ahli at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah and the winner of the match will take on Al-Ittihad for the championship.
