Nilofar Shahid Wins 3rd LG Cooking Contest in Jeddah

JEDDAH, 17 May 2003 — A sizable number of Saudis were among 350 ladies of 14 different nationalities who took part in the 3rd LG international cooking competition held at the Alhamra Sofitel Hotel here recently.

Nilofar Shahid won the first prize, two second prizes went to Zakia Saud and Marwat Mohammed, and three third prizes were claimed by Raida Kamal Momenee, Lily Sirgar and Shaheen Najam.

Four 4th prizes were bagged by Humaira, Deena Abdullah, Naheed Rehan and Farzana Abdul Jalil. Five special consolation prizes went to Lubna Rizvi, Ismat Abbad, Rumana Moin, Shams Abdul Mohsin and Iram Afzal.

Prizewinners of a lucky draw were Aziza Ali, Zain Abbas, Lily Sirgar, Atheena, Hilda Talal and Khulood.

LG General Manager H.K. Seo’s wife Ok Kyoung Seo, who was the chief guest, gave away prizes to all winners. Hatoon Fawzy and Dr. Asma Siddiqi conducted the pro-ceedings in Arabic and English respectively.

In all 130 women were registered for the contest and 118 of them arrived at the venue with their dishes. All dishes were numbered and judged by professional chefs and cooks of vast experience.

“Judgment is difficult as each dish is a class by itself,” said one of the judges. Before the judges examined and sampled the dishes, H.K. Seo reviewed the presentation.

Observing the enthusiasm of participants, he increased the number of prizes on the spot.

He added five consolation prizes to the list of original 10 prizes. He also announced six prizes for the lucky draw. All prizes were in the form of LG products.

“We need more events like these,” one of the guests remarked.
