JEDDAH, 19 May 2003 — Saudi Arabia’s demand for security products and systems, which is already some $200 million annually, is expected to double or even treble this year, according to industry leaders.

“It is unfortunate that a tragic event like the one in the capital should create awareness about safety and security aspects,” Abd Almajeed Batterjee, president of the A.M. Batterjee Group (AMB), said. “We’ve been flooded with inquiries for products such as electronic security and access control, closed circuit television (CCTV), fire monitoring and total fire integrating systems and uninterrupted power supply systems,” he said.

“Surveillance cameras that are on offer are dust-proof and moisture-proof. There is now a growing demand for bullet-proof cameras,” said Majid Abd Almajeed Batterjee, group client service manager.

“There are very few major players who offer total security solutions. Most offer only devices but not with after-sales and backup services,” Majid said.

Talking about the latest products, he said the “Silent Witness” line of miniature surveillance cameras offer a combination of compact size, sharp video imaging and compatibility with a variety of integrated surveillance systems. The black and white versions are infrared sensitive. “These cameras with micro imaging devices are ideal for discreet surveillance, home security and integrated monitoring solutions. Low power consumption and incredibly small size are among their other features,” he pointed out.

According to Majid, Batterjee Security Products, a division of the AMB Group, has branches in Riyadh, Alkhobar, Jeddah and Dubai. It has an on-going program of investments in staff and customer training, demonstration rooms, fleet of vehicles and building and equipment. “Our response time to any call is four hours and our engineers are at hand to provide 24-hour service.”
