JEDDAH, 23 May 2003 — Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, currently in the Kingdom on a private visit, stressed yesterday the need for continued cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in the fight against terror.

According to a Pakistan Consulate General statement Pervez said the steps taken by Pakistan to fight international terrorism alongside other countries had yielded results and a large number of terrorists had been arrested. They also led to the improvement of law and order in the country, he added.

Pervez condemned the blasts carried out by terrorists in Riyadh and said Islamabad supported the measures taken by the Kingdom to end terrorism. The Kingdom has taken measures to hunt down those responsible for the blasts, he added.

The Punjab chief minister said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoyed excellent relations and expressed his complete solidarity with the Kingdom and its people in their fight against terror. He said those perpetrating such heinous acts were harming Muslims and giving Islam a bad name.

Such people should be dealt with an iron hand, he added.
