RIYADH, 23 May 2003 — The Maharlika International Shotokan Association (MISA) based in the Eastern Province is holding its annual martial arts competition on June 13, 2003 at the Jubail Sports Complex. Sensei Raul S. Gonzales, head of the tournament organizing committee, announced that almost 40 martial arts clubs and federations from various parts of the Eastern Province and the Gulf have already confirmed their participation. Sensei Gonzales also said that other martial art clubs from Riyadh, Jeddah, and Khamis Mushayt will also participate.
According to Sensei Gonzalez, the competition will be categorized in two divisions comprising of junior and senior levels and is open to all nationalities. The events in junior division will include individual kata and kumite while in senior division events are individual kata, individual kumite, team kata and team kumite.
Professor Mohammad I. Tianero, Soke, MA, Phd, certified world grandmaster and holder of international world of martial arts hall of fame, will deliver the key note address and officially declare the tournament open. Engr. Sotero F. Tornea, Jr. of Polo/OWWA and Philippine Embassy representative, will also speak during the opening ceremonies.
Other invited guests include presidents and/or representatives of various community groups representing sports, professionals and civic associations, managers of corporate sponsors and other prominent guests based in the Eastern Province.
