DAMMAM, 27 May 2003 — A source at the Saudi Railway Organization has revealed that the expansion of the rail network will start in 18 months.
Khaled Al-Yahya, president of the Saudi Railway Organization, said that the project would take three years, and would be carried out by the private sector. “Saudi companies will be given priority,” he added.
Al-Yahya was speaking during the first visit of Minister of Transport Dr. Jabara Al-Seraisry. The minister praised the expansion project, saying it would be good for transportation, the economy and development in general.
Official sources said that studies indicated that the initial assessment of the project’s cost was between SR8 billion and SR10 billion.
