NEW YORK, 27 May 2003 — Greg Myers hit a two-run double and Josh Phelps also drove in two runs to spark the Toronto Blue Jays to a 5-3 victory over the reeling New York Yankees in the American League on Sunday.
The win completed a sweep of the series by the Blue Jays, the first time Toronto has swept a four-game contest in New York.
“This is a big win for our club,” Myers told reporters. “It was a real team win for us.”
Toronto moved within four games of first-place Boston in the AL East and 2 1/2 games of the Yankees. New York has lost seven in a row at home and 11 of the last 12 overall and now turn to Roger Clemens to try and end the slump against Boston.
Clemens will go for career victory 300 on Memorial Day, which will feature a tribute to the US Armed Forces.

In Boston, Milton Bradley had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs to help the Cleveland Indians to a 6-4 win over the Red Sox. Shane Spencer drove in two runs and Matt Lawton recorded the game-winner with a fourth-inning double.
White Sox 8 Tigers 5
In Chicago, Joe Crede blasted a three-run homer in the 12th inning to lift the White Sox to an 8-5 triumph over the Detroit Tigers. Carlos Lee’s grand slam put the White Sox ahead in the fifth while Gary Glover (1-0) was the winner after pitching a scoreless 12th.

In Texas, Melvin Mora had five hits and drove in two runs to pace the Baltimore Orioles to a 13-10 win in a slugfest with the Rangers. Luis Matos had a two-run homer to help the Orioles strike for five runs in the first inning.

In Oakland, Mark Ellis singled home the winning run to complete a 4-3 come-from-behind triumph for the Athletics over the Kansas City Royals. Ramon Hernandez homered in the seventh inning and Erubiel Durazo hit a two-run shot to tie the game with two out in the bottom of the ninth.
Angels 6 Devil Rays 1
In Anaheim, Garret Anderson had an RBI triple before scoring on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to guide the Angels to a 6-1 rout of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Kevin Appier (3-2) allowed one run and four hits in six innings. Dewon Brazelton (0-4) gave up three runs, three earned, and five hits while striking out seven batters in five innings.
Twins 3 Mariners 1
In Seattle, Dustan Mohr homered and Torii Hunter had two hits and drove in a run to steer the Minnesota Twins to a 3-1 victory over the Mariners. Rick Reed (3-5) went seven innings for the win, allowing one run on five hits with one strikeout and no walks.

In Montreal, Brian Schneider hit a three-run homer to help the Montreal Expos complete a successful homestand, their last in the city until June 20, by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 in the National League on Sunday.
The Expos won five of their six games at the Olympic Stadium in front of bigger than usual crowds, Sunday’s finale attracting 17,023 fans while Saturday’s discount tickets promotion attracted a total of 33,236.
The fans left happy as Montreal improved to 32-18, the second best record in the NL. The Expos now play their next 22 games away from the city, including a six-game “homestand” in Puerto Rico, where they have 22 home games this year in a bid to increase revenue.

In Atlanta, Marcus Giles hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Braves a 3-1 win over the New York Mets. Andruw Jones added two hits, including a fifth-inning home run. Roberto Hernandez (4-1) allowed one run and two hits in one inning of relief of Greg Maddux, who pitched seven scoreless innings.

In Cincinnati, Mike Lowell and Derrek Lee homered in the eighth inning to hand the Florida Marlins a 6-2 triumph over the Reds. Rookie Dontrelle Willis (2-1) pitched eight scoreless innings, striking out nine and allowing six hits before Braden Looper retired the final batter in the ninth for his seventh save of the season.

In Pittsburgh, Kenny Lofton scored twice and drove in the winning run with a seventh-inning double to lift the Pirates to an 8-7 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

In Milwaukee, Fred McGriff launched a two-run homer and Kevin Brown worked eight strong innings to give the streaking Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-1 victory over the Brewers.

In Houston, Moises Alou was three-for-four and drove in three runs as the Chicago Cubs overcame the Astros 7-3. Alex Gonzalez and Lenny Harris each drove in two runs while Carl Zambrano (5-4) pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up three runs and five hits while striking out five batters.

In Denver, Darren Oliver pitched six scoreless innings and doubled home the winning run in the second inning as the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-1. Oliver (2-3) allowed seven hits and one walk and struck out two batters.

In Phoenix, Mark Grace struck a two-run homer and David Dellucci had two hits and two RBI to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks past the San Diego Padres 9-5.
