RIYADH: Saudi authorities have arrested a number of people across the country for drug-related offenses in recent days.

On Saturday, Border Guard land patrols in the Al-Ardah governorate in the Jazan region foiled four attempts to smuggle more than 185 kg of the narcotic plant qat.

The General Directorate of Narcotics Control arrested two citizens in the Jazan region for trafficking 32 kg of hashish. They were also found in possession of firearms and live ammunition.

Authorities also arrested a citizen in the Northern Borders region for trafficking amphetamine.

Police in the Qassim region arrested a citizen who was using a house as a den for trafficking hashish and amphetamine. Firearms, live ammunition and a sum of money were also seized.

Police in the Badr governorate in Madinah arrested three citizens for trafficking amphetamine, hashish and regulated medical tablets. They were found in possession of a sum of money.

Preliminary legal procedures have been completed and all seized narcotics handed over to the authorities. All those arrested have been referred to the Public Prosecution.
