SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, 6 June 2003 — Garret Anderson hit three home runs and Jeff DaVanon added two more to lead the Anaheim Angels to an emphatic 11-2 Interleague victory over the Montreal Expos on Wednesday. Troy Glaus and Brad Fullmer also homered for the Angels, who set a franchise record with seven home runs in one game and tied a 64-year-old major league record for the most in two games — 13.
The 1939 New York Yankees were the last team to hit 13 homers in two games. Defending World Series champions Anaheim have won four straight games while the Expos have dropped five in a row. DaVanon has six homers in his last three outings. Anderson also homered on Tuesday and had five RBIs on Wednesday.
Jarrod Washburn (6-5) went six innings, allowing one run on five hits. Sun-Woo Kim (0-1) surrendered six runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.

In Chicago, Sammy Sosa went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts 24 hours after he was ejected for using a corked bat as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Cubs 5-2. Sosa was cheered by the crowd at Wrigley Field on the day his other 76 bats were all declared legal.

In Cincinnati, Ken Griffey Jr injured his arm but still homered as the Reds beat the New York Yankees 6-2. Griffey left the game after his home run. Aaron Boone, Sean Casey and Jason LaRue all added homers for the Reds. Mike Mussina (7-4) allowed six runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.

In Pittsburgh, Byung-Hyun Kim pitched seven solid innings in his Boston starting debut as the Red Sox defeated the Pirates 11-4 in the opening game of a doubleheader, the first game between the teams since the 1903 World Series. Kim (1-0) allowed one run on five hits, improving to 2-5 overall this year after leaving Arizona.

In Atlanta, Greg Maddux tossed eight solid innings and drove in a run to lead the Braves to a 5-2 victory over the Texas Rangers. Maddux (5-5) allowed two runs on nine hits. John Smoltz pitched the ninth for his 22nd save of the season while Gary Sheffield had a two-run homer. Juan Gonzalez drove in both Texas runs.
John Thomson (3-7) gave up four runs on six hits in five innings.

In Miami, Scott Hatteberg’s eighth-inning single drove in the winning run as the Oakland Athletics beat the Florida Marlins 6-5. Chad Bradford (4-3) tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the win. Keith Foulke pitched a scoreless ninth for his 15th save of the season. Tim Spooneybarger (1-2) allowed one run and one hit in 1 1/3 innings.

In Houston, Wade Miller (3-4) allowed three runs on four hits to lead the Astros past the Baltimore Orioles 6-4. Billy Wagner gave up a run and a hit in 1 1/3 innings to pick up his 16th save of the season. Jose Vizcaino homered and Lance Berkman added three hits.

In Philadelphia, John Olerud had three hits and drove in four runs as the streaking Seattle Mariners brushed aside the Phillies 7-2. Ichiro Suzuki added four hits for Seattle. Gil Meche (8-2) went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits.

In St. Louis, Miguel Cairo had three hits as the Cardinals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-5. Jason Simontacchi (3-3) gave up five runs on 10 hits in five innings. Cal Eldred pitched two shutout innings for his fifth save of the season. Carlos Delgado and Reed Jonson homered for the Jays. Cory Lidle (8-4) allowed eight runs on 11 hits over five innings.

In Los Angeles, Carlos Beltran and Angel Berroa homered to lead the Kansas City Royals past the Dodgers 2-1. Rookie Kyle Snyder (1-3) seized the win, allowing one run on three hits over six innings.

In Phoenix, Shea Hillenbrand homered and also doubled twice to steer the Arizona Diamondbacks to an 8-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Rookie Andrew Good (2-1) went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Jose Valverde pitched the ninth for his first save of the season.

In Denver, Preston Wilson homered, had three hits and drove in both runs as the Colorado Rockies edged the Cleveland Indians 2-1. Darren Oliver (3-4) went five innings, allowing one run on five hits for the win.
