JEDDAH, 27 June 2003 — In the quarterfinals of Jeddah Cricket League Division II Friday League, Hafil was pitched against Adamjee, Nestle Milo took on BRC, Sahary Pack faced KAIA and SGI played Saudi Majestic.
Adamjee Insurance put up 175 runs for 7 wickets in its’ quantum of overs but Hafil cruised to victory with 2 overs to spare losing four wickets.
Adamjee Insurance openers Imran (55) dominated the opening partnership of 35. Shahbaz contributed 26. Talha claimed 2 scalps for 27 runs. Hafil’s Abid (60) and Saleem Nahdi (63) played confidently and added 112 runs for the second wicket. Ehsan hit an unbeaten 110 and enabled Nestle Milo to amass 220 runs for three wickets. BRC could manage only 167 runs in reply. Nestle Milo’s Aurangzeb (64) and Amjad (22) added 59 runs for the 2nd wicket partnership. Ehsan started dispatching leather to all corners of ground with an unbeaten 110.
In reply, BRC scored 167 runs. Taj (26) and Qader (39) provided a 62 runs opening partnership. Aslam (27) and Muhajir (31 n.o.) were the other notable contributors. Zahid Qureshi picked up 3 wickets for 18 runs.
Sahary Pack Beat KAIA: KAIA was bowled out for 199 runs but KAIA bowlers made Sahary Pack sweat before they could reach the victory target. Naveed (3 for 20) and Saadat (3 for 24) wrecked KAIA’s batting despite an opening wicket stand of 63 between Abrar (28) and Zameem (31). Mir Saifullah (27 n.o.) held up his end when wickets fell like ninepins at the other. KAIA were all out for 119. Wajid (2 for 24) and Tanveer (2 for 28) also made scoring difficult.
Zameem (3 for 22) and Shams (2 for 18) paid Sahary Pack batsmen back in kind but Majid (43) who remained firm when all others panicked.
SGI Outfight Saudi Majestic: Saudi General Insurance piled up a challenging total of 215 runs. Saudi Majestic reached 206 runs in reply.
Saudi General Insurance’s challenging tally was made possible by its openers Qamar (35) and A. Rab (98) who provided a sound start of 79 runs in 8 overs. A. Rab missed a well deserved century when he was caught at the boundary of Saleem Bobat’s bowling. Azeem (40) did not allow any respite to the bowlers. Saleem Bobat (2 for 38) and Naeem (2 for 29) were successful bowlers. Saudi Majestic batsmen took up the challenge as their openers Zahid (46) and Arif (66) raced to 86 runs in 9 overs.
But Qamar (2 for 23) dashed Saudi Majestic hopes by dismissing Zubair with the score at 202. Saudi Majestic needed 14 runs in the last over but could score only 4. Saudi Majestic’s inning closed at 206. Azeem (3 for 39) was the pick of the bowlers.
