RIYADH, 18 July 2003 — The Kudu team of Coach Orly Casimero triumphed anew in their recent outing with the Pizza Hut team of Coach Jojo Ben in the seventh week of action of the Jeraisy Group of Companies Inter-Company (Bonafide) Basketball Tournament being held at the Jeraisy Staff Compound Basketball Court, Exit 7 (back of Al-Imam University).

Once again, team captain Noel Sabordo led his team to a 69-54 victory. A free throw split shot by Aries Sarmiento followed by a three-pointer conversion of Rodel Manalo, opened the scoring but Ruel Tugade retaliated with both teams applying extra defense. Kudu later exploded for a 10-2 run led Sabordo to lead 17-14.

Kudu increased their lead, 26-14 with Sabordo directing play and scoring as well with the Pizza makers finding it hard to defend.

Sabordo excited the crowd with his fancy passes as the lead increased to 23 points in the early part of the 3rd quarter. Kudu’s towers Aries Sarmiento, Jerry Sazon and Jimmy Franco successfully outrebounded the Pizzamakers (Nante Garcia and Xandrix Babao) every time they were sent to the shaded area and with Frando Rodejo, Rowel Norcio, Allain Catalan, Rey Sillo, Ador Aguinaldo, and Manny Calma’s weighing in, Kudu won by 15 points margin. Top scorers for the Pizza Hut team were Ruel Tugade, Dave Mallari, Arthur Gabon, Zandrix Babao, Larry De Guzman and Ronald Naperi.

The Zahran team of Arnel Ardamoy began with Gerry Busca getting a great pass from Jess Ritualo that was converted to a fall-out shot while their team took a commanding lead with a couple of 3 pointers from Benjie Enriquez. Jess Ritualo at the center blocked every shot opportunity of the Al-Jomaih squad. Only during the 3rd canto did Al-Jomaih cut the lead to 10 points, 54-64 with Jay Amongol, Jeffrey Maldicas and Sonny Cacho contributing in the defense and offense as Zahran slowed down. Al-Jomaih’s defense broke the productive performance of Choie Ordaneza but Zahran still won convincingly 105-84.

The Mashar team led by Jessie Uy, Proceso Rivera and Jessie Medrano tasted sweet victory against Golden Grass team of Nestor de Castro and John Caballero. Golden Grass scored the first basket, but the Mashar team came back swiftly. The secured their win though their prized cager Jessie Uy got into foul trouble during the early part of the game.

With four minutes left and 15 points lead Mashar employed a man to man defense forcing the Golden Grass group into a number of errors allowing Mashar to recover. A free throw miss by Golden Grass gave the Mashar boyz their first win 87-83.
